It was meant to be a simple take away idea but Asha has become a permanent fixture at popular Cirencester bar – Somewhere Else.
Foyez Rahman and his uncle and head chef Khaled were looking for a venue in January of this year to produce their curries and Indian inspired dishes and approached the venue, Somewhere Else. Now reopen the two businesses have united to create an East meets West interpretation of modern Asian flavours that can be enjoyed at Somewhere Else as part of their food offering. There are also some classic authentic dishes for those already familiar with Khaled’s cooking style.
Open flatbreads of Zeera chicken Barbecoa or barbequed paneer sit on the menu alongside salad bowls of coal roasted king prawns or barbeques peppers. There are samosas, perfect for sharing and East meets West tacos, all full to the brim with your choice of meat, fish or veg, topped with lemon yoghurt and Harissa mayo. For the traditionalist or even the curry novice there is a celebration biriyani, a favourite from Foyez’s childhood in his mums Ammus almond curry and his uncles signature curry called the ‘Ruby Murray’ of fresh peppers and chilies with lamb.
Khaled is the core of Asha – the team bring him ideas and he executes the dishes with the flavour, elevating the food and spices with our very own Director and Chef, Rob Goves.
Somewhere Else is known regionally as a cocktail venue so we’ve had some fun adding to the menu to create some complimentary drinks options to the Asha dishes; Dancing on the piano keys is a white rum, lemongrass, star anise and passion fruit cocktail and is the most popular, giving a subtle sweet and spicy flavour.
Asha are also now hosting monthly supper clubs, upstairs in Somewhere Else, the first being a sell-out success so limited numbers mean that booking is imperative. It’s the perfect chance for everyone to try the menu. The supper clubs are more traditional but still have a twist with the tacos and lamb stack of stuffed flatbread and Siracha mayo also included as well as some of our other joint ideas.
