National Sandwich Week
Who doesn’t love a sandwich? Quick, easy and filling, the humble lunchtime hero is a staple on our shelves and in our lunch bags and boxes. So what better way to pay homage then to dedicate an entire week to the sandwich in all its glory.
We love sandwiches here in the UK where we spend a whopping eight billion pounds on them, that’s over three BILLION sarnies a year! But with the variety of breads and fillings available is it really any wonder?
Baps, Butties, Wraps & Baguettes and all there is to offer, turns out we Brits buy more of the humble sliced sandwich than any other carrier. When it comes to fillings, bacon was a close contender for the top spot last year but the ever-versatile chicken remained our firm favourite, with cheese coming third in the rankings.
This week also includes events such as the ‘Sammies’ — the annual Awards of the sandwich industry. Some of the awards presented comprise the Best New Sandwich and the Sandwich Retailer of the year. Campaigns are also run by the British Sandwich Association to promote the week and host activities that market the sandwich industry of the country.
Many of our venues across the Cotswolds make extraordinary dishes based on the traditional sandwich – using freshly baked bread delivered daily by our local supplier Hobbs Bakery, we serve open sandwiches, toasties, paninis, butties and wraps with an array of fillings using only the finest, freshest ingredients. Why not pop down and try one for yourself??
